This Monday 29th March we’ve seen the first stage of the easing of restrictions, starting with outdoor gatherings of two households or up to 6 people. If the government ‘roadmap’ goes to plan, by April and May we will be able to venture out a bit more and explore the wonderful Berkshire! So, in time for the re-opening of the world, we want to share with you our favourite local dog-friendly restaurants and pubs to visit.
- Fox and Hounds, Theale
Not only is this named the most dog-friendly pub in Berkshire, but in the whole of the UK too! As the winner of the Dog Friendly Pub of the Year Awards 2019, The Fox and Hounds, situated in West Berkshire, has proved a popular spot for some good pub grub. As well as an exquisite all-encompassing menu for you, they also offer a doggy menu for the pooches in attendance – dog treats, main courses consisting of chicken and sausages with vegetables.. they even offer pooch puddings with pink or white pawsecco – brilliant!
The location of the pub, near Hosehill Lake, makes it an ideal spot for a dog walk to get those steps in before or after your Sunday roast.
2. The Six Bells, Beenham
Situated in the charming village of Beenham lies the Six Bells – a dog-friendly local pub we can’t recommend enough. Ready for their grand re-opening on April 12th, The Six Bells is now taking bookings for its small beer garden backing onto the West Berkshire countryside, providing stunning views whilst you refresh on a cold pint. Priding themselves on using fresh local produce, this beautiful country pub also offers an extensive seasonal food menu with vegetarian and vegan options to cater to all dietary requirements.
The Six Bells welcome muddy paws in the main bar, snug and conservatory and due to the fantastic location, if you fancy a stroll you can walk your pooch through the village before or after your visit. This family run pub and restaurant has recently been renovated in 2020, creating a more modern vibe to the historic building.
3. The Spotted Dog, Cold Ash
The Spotted Dog is a pub and restaurant located in Cold Ash, a popular village near Berkshire, Thatcham. With a large private car park and a newly enclosed garden and playground, safe for children & dogs, this is the perfect family friendly location for a quick refreshment or a sit down meal.
The half-timbered, red-brick village inn serves classic pub food with a variety of menus – lunchtime and evening, dessert and a Sunday roast menu. You’ll be sure to find a delicious selection of food and drink consisting of a variety of wines, spirits and soft drinks, light bites and full course meals.
Dog-friendly pubs and restaurants can be hard to find, not least because the majority of our pooches are absolute fiends all food that isn’t their own… we hope you get to visit some of these and that your furry best friends enjoy their meals too!
